2 Day Desert Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga

The journey begins before Marrakech fully wakes up. As the city slowly fades behind you, the road starts climbing into the High Atlas Mountains, revealing one dramatic view after another. Crossing the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass is always one of those moments travelers don’t expect to enjoy this much — winding roads, tiny Amazigh villages built into the hillsides, and panoramic viewpoints that make everyone ask for photo stops.

Further south, the landscapes become drier and more cinematic as you pass through Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the Sahara. But the real shift happens when you arrive at the Todra Gorges. After hours of open roads and desert scenery, suddenly you’re walking between enormous canyon walls rising hundreds of meters above you. The air feels cooler, quieter, almost surreal.

By late afternoon, the golden dunes of Merzouga finally appear on the horizon. This is usually the moment when the trip stops feeling like a road journey and starts feeling like a real desert experience. Camels are waiting at the edge of the dunes, and as you ride deeper into Erg Chebbi during sunset, the atmosphere becomes incredibly peaceful.
