Chefchaouen, or “Chaouen”, is a mesmerizing town where every wall, alleyway, and doorway is painted in shades of blue, creating an unforgettable backdrop for your first day in Morocco. Wander through the medina, explore Outa el Hammam Square, and enjoy a delicious Moroccan lunch while soaking in the town’s serene atmosphere.
After lunch, we continue south to Fes, one of Morocco’s most enchanting imperial cities. As the evening sets in, settle into your traditional riad and prepare for an immersive journey through Morocco’s cultural and historical heart the next day.
Day 2: Fes Guided Tour – Discover the Spiritual & Cultural Capital
Today, you will explore Fes through the eyes of a local guide, unraveling the secrets of Morocco’s oldest imperial city. With its UNESCO-protected medina, Fes is a labyrinth of history, culture, and craftsmanship waiting to be discovered.
Your journey starts in Fes el Bali, the oldest part of the medina, where narrow alleyways, ancient souks, and centuries-old monuments transport you back in time. Highlights of the day include:
Al-Qarawiyyin University (Founded in 859 CE) – The world’s oldest continuously operating university.
Chouara Tannery – Witness the centuries-old leather-making process from a panoramic rooftop view.
Al-Attarine Madrasa – Admire the intricate Moroccan zellij tilework and stunning architecture.
The Mellah (Jewish Quarter) – A fascinating glimpse into Morocco’s diverse heritage.
After a day full of exploration, return to your riad and enjoy an evening at leisure in Morocco’s cultural capital.
Day 3: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Ziz Valley – Merzouga (Sahara Desert)
After breakfast, we leave Fes behind and head toward the Sahara Desert, passing through the diverse landscapes of the Middle Atlas Mountains.
Stop in Ifrane, often called “The Switzerland of Morocco”, known for its clean streets, alpine-style houses, and cool climate.
Visit Azrou’s Cedar Forest, home to the famous Barbary macaques—Morocco’s native monkeys.
Cross the Ziz Valley, where thousands of date palm trees stretch as far as the eye can see.
Arriving in Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara, you will trade your vehicle for camels and embark on a magical trek through the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. As the sun sets over the dunes, experience the magic of the Sahara, with its vast silence and breathtaking beauty.
At your desert camp, enjoy traditional Moroccan mint tea and a hearty Amazigh dinner under a sky full of stars. Gather around the campfire for an evening of Amazigh music and drumming, making this a night to remember.
Overnight in a luxury desert camp in Merzouga.
Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
Wake up early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the Sahara, with the dunes glowing in golden hues. After breakfast, we begin our journey through some of Morocco’s most stunning landscapes.
Explore Rissani, home to Morocco’s largest traditional market, where nomads trade everything from dates to livestock.
Visit Todra Gorge, a spectacular canyon with 300-meter-high rock walls, a paradise for climbers and nature lovers.
Drive through the scenic Dades Valley, known for its red rock formations and traditional Berber villages.
As the sun sets, check into your hotel in Dades Valley, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. Enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner and rest up, as tomorrow brings the final stretch of this unforgettable 5-day Morocco itinerary toward the vibrant city of Marrakech.
